UC Regents Approve Preliminary Plans for Berkeley Clean Energy Campus

August 28, 2023

In July 2023, the University of California Regents approved funding for preliminary plans for the Berkeley Clean Energy Campus capital projects initiative. The Regents approved up to $40 million, supported by State General Fund appropriations.

During preliminary plans, the campus will confirm the project scope and budget for the electrified clean energy microgrid; complete site surveys and geotechnical testing for the Electrified Heating and Cooling Plant (EHCP) and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs); confirm buildings for initial distribution connections; confirm required electrical infrastructure improvements; and complete environmental review pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

The Berkeley campus anticipates returning to the Regents for full budget and design approval following action pursuant to California Environmental Quality Act in the fall of 2024.
